Second Act

What is Second Act?

Retirees go from working to not working in the blink of an eye.  On Friday you show up for your last day on the job, and on Monday, it’s all gone.  This is an enormous transition in life, and it is something that most people do not plan to handle.  We very diligently plan all the steps leading up to retirement, but most of us do not plan how to spend our day-to-day life in retirement.  You just gained 40+ hours of free time every week!  What will you do with it?  Just because you retired, it doesn’t mean you are going to stop working.  Your time in retirement is going to be filled with something.  Some form of “work”.  It is on you to take control of what that “work” looks like so non-enjoyable things don’t fill your time for you.  There’s a difference between being busy and doing meaningful work.  Let Second Act help you take control.

Second Act is a virtual group coaching program for professionals who are about to retire or have recently retired and are looking for a meaningful way to spend their time (outside of traveling and being with family).  As a part of this group, you will examine the principles outlined by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans in their book Designing Your Life

Second Act includes six 90-minute group coaching sessions over seven weeks and one individual coaching session with Lauren.  There will be three to four participants in each group.  Group coaching dates and times will be decided by the group, once formed.  (Don’t worry.  We will find a time that works for everyone).

What will retirees gain from Second Act?

By participating in Second Act you will discover how to:

  1. Use tools to help you self-reflect and discover what is most important in life and what you need to feel fulfilled.
  2. Slow down and take time to explore your needs and wants to determine what makes you happy and discover a way to shape your passion and interests into channels that feel comfortable, productive, and actionable.
  3. Develop strategies to organize your time and structure your day (now that the whole 9 to 5 thing is over).
  4. Feel empowered, heard, and not alone by learning from other retirees.
  5. Reframe self-defeating thoughts about what is possible in life.
  6. Establish a community of motivated people who can help you and you can help too.
  7. See a way forward and design a process to help you answer the question, “What’s next?”

What do retirees need to have a successful experience?

To be a successful member of this group you should be intrinsically motivated to learn, interested in self-discovery, willing to step outside of your comfort zone, able to make planning retirement a priority, and ready to have fun.

How much does Second Act cost?

Second Act costs $550.  This includes 6 group coaching sessions and one individual coaching session.  And additional cost of $38 will be needed to purchase course materials.

Testimonials

“This experience gave me the tools for self-reflection and discovery that helped me relax and organize my future in a way that helped me see what is most important to feel fulfilled. It allowed me to focus on the things that are most important right now: my health, being connected with people and enjoying each day.  Being part of a group with my friends was fantastic.  Not only did I looked forward to our weekly meetings and hearing about their reflections and desires for themselves, but we were able to support each other through the process.  Working with people I knew and respected was an added bonus. The camaraderie continues as we still talk about the ways we are moving forward. I didn’t feel alone.” – Cohort 1 Participant

If you are considering options once you have retired, and you are still looking to contribute your skills and assets in a productive manner, this workshop is for you. It is a process that guides you to focus on your interests and skills, in ways you may not have considered.” – Cohort 1 Participant

“The exercises Lauren led our group through got me to realize that retirement is not just stopping to work.  That was an empty feeling.  There was a void that I needed to identify.  This workshop provided the opportunity for a different venue for my way of thinking. I realized the best way to get the most out of my retirement was to approach it in a manner not unlike that which guided me through my work life, as well as my interim work as an at-home mom raising children.  I learned accountability and significance for me are key.” – Cohort 1 Participant

“After my first 2 years of retirement, which were mostly spent putting out fires on a personal level, going through this program made me realize that what I needed, and thrived on, was structure.  And through the structure that this program brought, I was able to focus on a true purpose.  With Lauren’s expertise, and the ideas discussed with the other retirees in the program, I found myself being able to shape my own personal interests and passions into channels that not only felt comfortable to me but were also productive and actionable. ” – Cohort 1 Participant
